Club Med Educational - Tignes; France

22 May 2024

Time flies when you are having FUN!
I cannot believe that a month has already past since I embarked on my adventure to France to experience a ski holiday with Club Med at the stunning Tignes Resort.

On Saturday, 20 April 2024 I met up with the other S.A.  Agents in Johannesburg, to take a long flight with Qatar Airways to Geneva.
Once in Geneva, we were met by the friendly staff of Club Med, who showed us our drivers and off we went on another 3 Hour long journey from Geneva, crossing into France, and a long windy road to Tignes.
Needless to say, I was not feeling so hot with the winding paths up to the Resort. We had to stop half way, so we could get out and catch some fresh air, and our poor driver , tried to get us as fast as possible to the resort (maybe we were not feeling so well or maybe he was afraid that we were going to throw up in his car). I cannot say for sure if his speedy driving helped our situation, but we finally made it to the Resort late afternoon.
Wow, the snow and the freezing cold! Suddenly all those ill feelings left me, while trying to come to terms with the difference in Temperature. After a quick greeting outside with the Club Med staff, and quickly putting on my Room Number Tag on my Bags, with shivering hands, I went inside to the Resort. We were greeted by the Club Med Staff with welcome drinks in a warm and cozy reception area. Once we got all the formalities behind us, we went up to our Rooms.

Each one of us had our own Rooms (no sharing this time) and what a beautiful setting it was. I stayed in a Deluxe Family Room with Balcony (this room can sleep 2 adults and 2 Children up to the age of 12) and the Kids have their own Room (without Balcony)
The Room was very spacious with a seperate Bath (shower in Bath) and Toilet, as well as a closet in the entrance to hang all your coats, and dresses etc. On the opposite side of the wall, were plenty of hangers to hang jackets etc. Very practical. The Children room had 1 Closet for Clothes, and the Parent's room had 2 Closest. Each bed has a stowaway area for the suitcases and each Room has a heater at the wall.
The Balcony, which I didn't use a lot, had a table and 2 Chairs. Which would be very nice to use in the summer.

I learned quickly that Superior and Deluxe Rooms do not get any Milk at the Coffee/tea station, but each room does have a Kettle and is daily restocked with tea and coffee satchels. The Milk issue didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I walked down to the small grocer around the corner, and bought 1L of long life milk to keep in my Room.
On that note, Room service is not available to Superior and Deluxe Room Categories either.
Club Med is moving towards being more environmentally friendly and only offers Paper Cups in the Room and wooden sticks “spoons”

Once settled into the room, and quickly unpacking my clothes, I met everyone downstairs at the ski fitting room. It is very busy down there, and can be overwhelming, but the staff there are very friendly and helpful and were there to assist us with our gear fitting.

I had originally indicated via the CLUB MED App, what my height, weight, and shoe size is, and little did I know, that everything was already set up for me in my Locker on arrival. As a newbie to all of this, it was definitely a good learning experience. If you are an experienced skier, or if this is not your first time skiing, I would recommend setting up everything on the App already, then you don't need to go down to the fitting room and you save yourself an hour of looking for skis, boots etc.
However, if this is your first time doing this, don't bother putting any of that information on the App, because you will need to want to fit the Skis, Boots, and Helmet. It's important that everything fits 100% to avoid being uncomfortable, when you actually start your first lesson.
Once I had fitted on my Boots, Skis and Helmet, I had to sign out everything and was assigned a locker, where my gear would be safely stored for the duration of my stay.
